Religious Masterpieces Found in Fayetteville Church

HOUSTON, TX (2003-11-18)

Some 19th century paintings, recently rediscovered at a small-town Catholic church in the hill country, have been described as masterpieces of religious art by a Houston art expert.

This story unfolded like one of those Antiques Roadshow moments, where people who found an old painting in their attic learn that it is really a masterpiece that is worth a fortune.

Jim Bell reports these paintings were lost and decaying for more than 30 years, but they've been found and restored to their original glory. They've also returned to the sanctuary of Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Fayetteville -- the same church that bought them more than a century ago.
